IPEF Stakeholder Listening Session in Busan, Korea

The Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) was launched jointly by USA and other partner countries of the Indo-Pacific region on May 23, 2022 at Tokyo.

 

India joined the IPEF and Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi attended the launch event along with US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and other leaders from partner countries.

 

IPEF has 14 partner countries including Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam & USA.

 

The IPEF seeks to strengthen economic engagement among partner countries with the goal of advancing growth, peace and prosperity in the region. The framework is structured around four pillars relating to Trade (Pillar I); Supply Chains (Pillar II); Clean Economy (Pillar III); and Fair Economy (Pillar IV).  The framework would focus on strengthening economic cooperation and enhancing resilience, sustainability, inclusiveness, economic growth, fairness, and competitiveness in the Indo-Pacific region.

 

A  Stakeholder Listening Session was held 13th July, 2023 at BEXCO ,Busan ; South Korea; where the Chief negotiators from USA, India and ROK participated and listened to the views of Stakeholders for the above four Pillars. Mr Keonki Roh , Deputy Minister for Trade Negotiations, ROK  gave the opening remarks for the Stakeholders Listening session , followed by remarks from the Trade representatives from USA.

 

ICCK Chairman Mr Anil Sinha ,COO & VP TATA Daewoo Commercial vehicles Ltd; ICCK Governor Mr Sudhir K Katiyar, CEO SBI ROK,  and Mr Ramesh Iyer – Business Head TCS, ROK  participated in the event as Speakers and shared their views on the four pillars. It was a very well attended session by various segments of the Commerce and trade besides  Agriculture, Trade Union as well as Academia representatives.

 

Fahad Ahmed Khan Suri (Deputy Secretary), Ministry of Commerce , Govt of India represented at the Stake holders Listening session from India side.


The session concluded with closing remarks from ROK and USA Chief negotiators.
