Gyeonggi Province (also referred to as Gyeonggi-do) surrounds the Korean capital city of Seoul and encompasses the port city of Incheon. Together, these three autonomies comprise Korea’s metropolitan region, accounting for half of Korea’s total population of 52 million. Gyeonggi Province itself, with 14 million residents, is the most populous autonomy in the nation. In terms of economic vitality, the GRDP of Gyeonggi Province in 2021 was approximately USD 411 billion while total provincial trade for that same year amounted to USD 300 billion, accounting for almost one-quarter of Korea’s overall economy. Concurrently, Gyeonggi is home to world-leading enterprises such as Samsung, SK, and Hyundai-Kia, placing Gyeonggi at the forefront of the global semiconductor, IT and automotive industries. And, as home to one third of Korea’s R&D professionals, the province is also on the cutting-edge of emerging industries including AI, biotech and mobility. As a place to experience Korea’s past, present, and future, Gyeonggi Province boasts a multitude of tastes, sights, and sounds. From UNESCO World Heritage Sites and the DMZ to the Korean Wave, Gyeonggi features multifaceted leisure opportunities that embody all the excitement of modern Korea. |
