GAIL net profit vaults 77% to Rs 3,183 crore in Q1

NEW DELHI: State-run gas utility GAIL's net profit vaulted 77% to Rs 3,183 crore in the first quarter compared Rs 1,792.9 crore a year ago, helped by a 40% increase in gas transportation business and doubling of marketing margins.

The country's largest natural gas company incurred a capital expenditure of Rs 1,659 crore, or 21% of the annual target, during the April-June period. This was mainly on pipelines, petrochemicals, and equity in joint ventures, a company statement quoted chairman Sandeep Kumar Gupta.

Pre-tax earnings from natural gas transmission rose to Rs 1,446.8 crore from Rs 1,028.3 crore during the quarter, while natural gas marketing earnings increased to Rs 2,036 crore from Rs 1,045.87 crore. Revenue from operations rose to Rs 33,692 crore from Rs 32,227 crore in the previous corresponding period.
