The Korea Institute for Advancement of Technology (KIAT) announced on Nov. 30 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding for joint R&D with the Global Innovation & Technology Alliance under the Indian Department of Science and Technology.

The MOU, which was signed in New Delhi, India on Nov. 29, is a follow-up measure of the agreement between Korea and India reached in their summit meeting in July this year. The leaders of the two nations agreed to establish the “Korea-India Future Strategy Group” to promote cooperation in the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

Through the MOU, KIAT will strengthen technical cooperation with India in high-tech manufacturing industries such as smart factory, electric car, robotics and automation, high-tech materials, and 3D printing and carry out joint R&D programs starting from next year.

It is also going to push for information exchange and expansion of networking to support activities for innovation between South Korean and Indian businesses.

"This MOU, which is intended to utilize India`s superior human resources and technical skills through joint R&D, will help boost international technology cooperation for Korea’s small and medium enterprises," KIAT president Kim Hak-do said.
