IIT Madras alumnus Pavan Davuluri has been appointed as the new head of Microsoft Windows and Surface.

Tech news portal The Verge said Davuluri has taken charge of the Surface silicon and devices work, with the previous head Mikhail Parakhin leading a new team focused on Windows and web experiences. Now both Windows and Surface will be Davuluri's responsibility, as Parakhin has "decided to explore new roles", it said.

Davuluri, a 23-year veteran at Microsoft, working across PC and Xbox hardware, Surface, Windows and silicon, has led product teams and dabbled in software and hardware playbooks. After IIT, Davuluri went to the University of Maryland, US. He started his career at Microsoft as a reliability component manager and moved up the ranks to become a corporate VP for Windows and Silicon & Systems Integration in 2021. He took on the role of corporate VP for Windows + Devices last year.

The Verge's information it said has come from an internal memo from Rajesh Jha, Microsoft's head of experiences and devices, outlining the new Windows organisation. "This will enable us to take a holistic approach to building silicon, systems, experiences, and devices that span Windows client and cloud for this AI era," Jha is reported to have said in the memo.
